How Sustainable is the Eco-Schools Show?

Environmental Policy 2012 - Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield

Policy

The threats posed by climate change are key challenges facing global society and industry today.

Live Nation and Motorpoint Arena recognise that the management of the venue creates an environmental impact through the use of energy, the transport of goods and people, the use of natural resources and the generation of large volumes of waste that contribute to the pressing global threats of climate change and resource depletion.

Motorpoint Arena understands the moral and business imperatives of integrating sustainable solutions into the heart of the business and is committed to continually improving the environmental performance of the venue.

Objectives

The aim of this policy is to establish Motorpoint Arena in a leadership position for sustainable venue management in the entertainment sector. This is to be achieved through establishing environmental management systems and working towards the following objectives;

  • 85% of all venue waste from both FOH and backstage to be recycled, the remaining 15% to be degraded by bacteria and used for compost where possible
  • 10% reduction in energy use per show compared to 2010
  • Review all purchasing decisions for more sustainable options on all future projects
  • Training & awareness programs for all staff
  • Communication of environmental performance to all incoming shows and the audiences; i.e., through poster sites in public areas and the venue website
  • Obtain 2* certification from Julies Bicycle

Scope

This policy applies to all Motorpoint Arena events and all staff working for or on behalf of Motorpoint Arena. This policy is available publicly and all staff are aware of the policy.
